Cindy's Blog is moving (has moved)

I am moving to a different blog program because this one has been hard to use.  Find my new blog at:

Hope to see you at the new website.  Leave a comment and let me know you "found me".

April 13

YIKES! It's April!

How has so much time passed since I last updated my blog?  Now to figure out what has happened since?

It's been a busy spring.  I've been busy with my tutoring business, volunteering at school, watching basketball, researching a new bike purchase and running the house!

The big news is that after months of research, study, riding bikes, etc. I have ordered a new road bike.  I settled on the Felt Z65, because I think I got the most bike for the money.  It is a sweet ride:  aluminum frame, carbon fork and seat post, all components are Shimano Ultegra, nice wheels, reasonable tires (which I can switch out) and weighs a little under 18 pounds.  It is being shipped from the West Coast and should arrive at the bike shop tomorrow (Monday).  It will take a day or two to build it and then I can go get it fit.  I should be riding by the weekend!!!!!  I can't wait.   I love my hybrid (TREK 7100), but I want to do longer rides and I need a road bike for that.  I have registerd for the MS 150 in May and am planning to ride the Seqgull Century in October.  Here's a catalog picture.  I'll take some real ones when I get my bike.

Jessica has been busy with Chorus.  She was chosen to sing in the Disctict 10 Choir.  That was two days of instructionals with a conductor from Chicago.  She enjoyed it, learned a lot and the concert was wonderful.  Their chorale competed in the District 10 Festival and for the first time in Hayfield High School's history, they earned all "Superiors"!  We are all very proud.   The chorale, chorus, band and orchestra travelled to Chicago for a festival competition at Northwestern University the last week of March.  The chorale got gold.  Chorus also got gold.  Band got gold and orchestra got silver.  The choirs won "Best Overall Choir" and Hayfield won "Best overall School".  Another shining moment for our music department.

More to come!
February 04

How can it be February already????

Wow. I can't believe that "Groundhog Day" has come and gone!  6 more weeks of winter - ick.  I really need to get outisde and ride my bike.  I got in 10 miles yesterday when the temps crept about 45.  I'm a weather wimp so that's as cold as I will tolerate.

Things have been busy here.  Jessica just finished catching up her 2nd Quarter work after missing all the time with mono.  She got all A's and B's and one C (in Spanish 3).  We were proud of her for doing all that makeup work during the holidays.  She also worked Tech for "Moon over Buffalo".  This week is busy with District 10 chorus (Jessica made the Freshman/Sophomore Choir) and the Science Fair (she did an experiement on teeth whiteners.)   Next week, she starts working tech for the Middle School musical, which is "Once Upon a Mattress".  She is enjoying the techinical theatre experience and has learned to change gels on the spotlights (conquering her fear of heights by going on the catwalk) and operate the following spot.  She also built and painted scenery and worked backstage.

Tom is busy at work.  He is also the "foreman" for building scenery in the Drama Department and built the set for "Moon over Buffalo".  It was complicated with 4 doors that were slammed a zillion times.  He is also in charge of "Broadway Night", which is the major fundraiser for the Choral programs.   It's  April 5 so we will be really starting to work on that soon.

I quit my job at Weight Watchers as of the end of January.  It was just getting too hard.  Lots of new requirements made it very hard to work part time.  I will still attend meetings because I truly believe in Weight Watchers.

The new freedom in my schedule will let me devote more time to riding my bike.  My goal this year is to ride 1500 miles.  I'm planning on upgrading to a road bike very soon.  I'm "outgrowing" my hybrid really fast.  I hope to ride the "Seagull Century" in Salisbury, MD on Oct 4.  I want to do the 100 miles (not the Metric century).   I've been going to Spinning Classes during the winter to keep my legs in shape.  The classes are fun and I enjoy the group atmosphere.

We are enjoying going to watch the Maryland Basketball games, both Men and Women.  The Men are playing better than I expected and the Lady Terps are always a joy to watch.  I can hardly wait for March Madness.

I guess that's all the new news for now!

Coming Soon Holiday Pictures

I really keep meaning to update my blog, but things have been busy here during the holiday break and the first week back to school.  Jessica had a huge amount of school work to make up and is busily trying to catch up (and do her current work!).  Missing a few weeks of High School just isn't good.  After making up some tests and quizzes tomorrow during lunch and after school, she should be caught up in everything except for Spanish, which is her most difficult subject.  (She is in Spanish 3).

The good news is that with the mild weather, I've actually gotten out on my bike a bit and am working towards my goal of riding 1500 miles this year.  Tomorrow is supposed to be almost 70 so I really hope to get a good, long ride in!

Hopefully, within the next few days I can post a really good update and some pictures.

Quick Upate

The reason I haven't had much time to add to my blog lately is that I have been caring for the sick and injured.  My Mom fell and broke BOTH wrists on November 18.  She had surgery on them both on the following Tuesday.  She is doing better now and started therapy yesterday.  She has removeable casts now so that helps a lot.

Jessica got really sick around the same time.  We finally got the diagnosis last week and she has/had mono.  She missed almost 2 weeks of school - which is horrible when you are in High School.  She went back to school for half days on Thursday and Friday.  She is still very tired and is starting to try and catch up on her schoolwork.

I'm getting the house decorated for the holidays, which cheers me up.  Thank goodness for on-line shopping or no one would receive gifts!  I think Christmas at our home this year will be VERY low key.

I'm tired and I haven't been anywhere except the Grocery Store and Doctor's offices in weeks but things are looking up.

Just wanted to keep everyone up to date.
